The pair of Flame-colored Tanagers that nested this summer at the Southwest Research Station in the Chiricahuas now boasts three fledglings.

The lone male in Madera Canyon is also still present.

The Brown-backed Solitaire appears to be setting up a feeding territory in Ramsey Canyon, and was heard and  seen both weekend days.

Ramsey Canyon’s Brown-backed Solitaire began its daily concert this morning at 10:30. This is a great bird, and one you won’t want to miss even if you’ve already seen the species in Mexico or Central America.

Are we starting to see a pattern? Again today–after being a no-show yesterday–the Brown-backed Solitaire played hard to get in the morning, then emerged from its lair at lunchtime.

The Brown-backed Solitaire was still present at 6:40 yesterday evening. No word yet this morning, but we’ll update when the bird is next reported.

A Brown-backed Solitaire was photographed and recorded this noon in Miller Canyon, just south of Sierra Vista. If accepted, this will be a first record for the ABA Area, all previous individuals having been adjudged escaped captives.
